First and foremost my blog is a journal. An online journal that has become a treasure box of memories, tips that I hope will be helpful and my online baby which has given me the impetus to learn a plethora of new skills. In that spirit, Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019! This little post is a throwback to the year that was.
I always spend the
last post of the year (< because I’m a rule breaker in 2019 it seems) first few posts of the year looking back over the previous 365 days – I think it’s important to remember where we’ve come from, as much as we look forward to where we are going.
My #bestnine for 2017 on Instagram nicely encapsulates the highlights of the year – it’s the year I started to step in front of the camera a little bit more, a year that I spent admiring the London skyline, a year spent dancing in front of landmarks I could only dream about as a Kiwi growing up on a distant Pacific island, a year spent learning lessons from the past and a year where my plate was filled with a cornucopia of delights.
2018 was also the year that my business seemed to thrive – I started working with a dream client and did projects with two charities very close to my heart – despite me travelling enough for the cat to disown me (briefly), I was thrilled to be nominated in the ‘up and coming blog’ section of the Flight Centre Travel blog awards, I enjoyed a bevy of special experiences and Mr Kiwi and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. 10 years!!
Traditionally each year I like to finish with a little roundup of the year. I think we’ll play with the top 18 this time (I did the best 17 last year, the best 16 in 2016, the top 15 in 2015, 14 in 2014, 13 in 2013, and 12 in 2012… see where I’m going with this?) the spirit and phrasing doesn’t change but the chaos definitely does.
The first five are chosen by you, my lovely readers, and always include a few surprises…
23 of the best places to go in New Orleans (a perennial favourite it seems, perhaps fate is telling us to go back…)
…a bevy of posts that meant a lot to me…
… a few extra surprises that the year held…
...and a touch of expat thoughts & inspiration.
So, goodbye 2018, hello 2019! Thank you. Thank you for sticking around and have a wonderful New Year! May it be full of joy and beautiful coffee.
