Grenada, the Caribbean Island of Spice [Pronounced Grin-AY-da]

Words can’t really describe how much I was looking forward to escaping the dreary English winter for the tropical Caribbean island shores of Grenada. I was already fed up of getting caught in the icy rain and shrugging on layers of heavy clothing – and it was only the very start of the coldest season of the year. Disclaimer: We were guests of Pure Grenada, the national tourism board, but all enthusing and rum cocktail enjoyment is very much my own.

I’d always dreamt of exploring the Caribbean – rowing to a teeny island with sparkling sands and palm trees waving over turquoise seas, but before I’d started blogging all those years ago I’d honestly never heard of Grenada.

Grenada has a very special kind of magic with an earthy, raw quality that intrigued me so much, I was scheming how to stay longer within a day of our flight landing.

Candy coloured sunsets from the 44 white sand beaches & 9 black sand beaches all lapped by turquoise shores…

…brightly coloured harbourside restaurants with owners FULL of London stories…

… and many, many rum punches which we delighted in trying at every restaurant and bar that we visited (every establishment has its own special recipe).

The townships are filled with amazing local characters…

We saw farmers walking through hilly roads, armed with machetes for clearing the forest and umbrellas for chasing off the tropical rain showers…

We loved our trip – number 4 of the fire evacuation procedure of our hotel sums up the fun-loving trip we had rather succinctly.

What’s not to love! (Keep your eyes peeled for my favourite things to do in Grenada and where we stayed…)

Are you a beach bunny or a culture vulture when you travel?
