An intriguing twist in life lately, has been bringing restaurants into our home instead of dining out. For months there has been no going out to eat but trying alternatives like the recently launched home dining by Corbin and King, which was delivered to us. [Disclosure: I was given these meals by Corbin and King but all opinions are very much my own.]
We were delighted to peruse the menu with signature dishes from the Wolseley (a brunch favourite), the Delaunay (an afternoon slice of cake favourite), Fischers (with my favourite schnitzel outside of Austria), Brasserie Zedel (a taste of Paris), Soutine, Manzi’s and Colbert.
It took us an age to choose – perusing the many options of a menu is something I really rather miss in these times of relying on oganisation and grocery deliveries. The idea is that you’re delivered the meals and pop them in the oven/frying pan to finish them off. Ease with an experienced flair.
Eventually we settled on a couple of options; Colbert’s duck confit with bean cassoulet and the Wolseley’s haddock goujons with frites & tartare sauce, plus a side of dill marinated cucumber salad (which is quite the generous portion.
It was super straight forward to pop them in the oven and our meals were delicious. Sunshine not guaranteed…
They also matched our meal with a delicious bottle of Chateau de Pierreux Brouilly (a 2018 Beaujolais.) Despite having stayed at Bernard Magrez’s Château Pape Clément, a Cru Classé Graves property near Bordeaux, we’ve never really gotten into red wine – but every sip was delicious.
The dessert selection was the hardest to choose from – and there was a lot of bartering. Eventually we decided upon the Delaunay’s vanilla cheesecake, and the Wolseley’s fruit crumble with creme anglaise. (I popped on my own passionfruit and mango coulis because I just felt like being a little extra. And, well, for the ‘gram)
It was just one of those long languid moments where you forget the world. I was sat with my sunnies on, in our lovely garden, the sunshine was pouring down, with my favourite Englishman (that’s Mr Kiwi.). A feast was laid before us that reminded us of a bushel of London memories and We. Didn’t. Have. To. Think. About. Anything. – except for the occasional beep of the oven timer.
The post-dinner entertainment was pure home-style…
100% of the profits from their Home Dining offer will go to directly to their staff, to assist with topping up their wages at this time until their restaurants can open at full capacity. They are now delivering to a 6 mile driving distance from Colbert, SW1W 8AX, with Monday to Friday with delivery slots available from 48 hours after ordering. There is a minimum order threshold and you will receive a text on the day of your delivery with a two hour time window.
We loved trying the home dining by Corbin and King.
