It has been a long time since I’ve had to start a restaurant review with an apology for the photos, but when we slipped onto the terrace to enjoy the Ziggy Green Taqueria menu, we were simply having too much fun to concentrate on anything but catching up. (Disclosure: We were guests of the Daisy Green Collection crew – but all musings are mine!)
Actually, I’m actually completely unapologetic – IMHO that’s the sign of an excellent night. And Ziggy Green is one of those places to let your hair down.
Found just off Regent’s Street, Ziggy Green is tucked along historic Heddon Street.
It’s located in a beautiful Grade II former cinema building on the Mayfair street made famous by the one and only David Bowie and his Ziggy Stardust album cover. Run by the Aussie crews famous for their banana bread and lamingtons (an excellent sign before you even step through the door) Ziggy Green is a beautiful space for brunching and catching up with mates.
Oh, did I mention the watermelon margaritas served from an actual hollowed out watermelon fitted with a tap? Shoulda mentioned that first before chatting on about David Bowie, huh? (All the millennials are going to be reading this and going ‘huh? David what?’ Sigh. Don’t worry – watermelon sugar (margaritas) high!)
It was so good just to relax with friends and good food – not to mention excellent cocktails – an insider tipped me off about the chilli margaritas, and boy are they excellent!
We began with nachos (with handmade guac -look millennials, avo!), a selection of cerviches (including day boat yellow fin tuna), their delicious popcorn shrimp and a selection of tostadas – they all went down an absolute treat.
Then, a feast of freshly made tacos to choose from; mezcal glazed HG Walter sirloin steak, Baja fish with avocado and fresh mango salsa, Buttermilk fried chicken, pico de gallo, BBQ mushroom and we’re pretty sure we even spotted a vegan jackfruit one.
See what I mean about how the photos the could be a bit better?? *Gallic shrug* sometimes you just have to live in the moment/eat the darn things. I had a marg in my hand, there were some awesome tunes playing, the heat had gone from the sun and I was with my mates.
We rounded the night out with their delicate, sumptuous tres leche dessert…
…and we also tried the Mars Bar cheesecake which was delicious. Just the thing to finish out an indulgent meal.
The Ziggy Green taqueria menu is available Tuesday-Saturday from 5pm. Lush is the word.
What’s your favourite flavour of taco?
