From the nutcracker to sugar plum fairy themes, from luxurious 5-star hotels to my very own living room – read on for the best London Christmas afternoon teas (according to me).
I’ve been feeling a bit grinchy, so I simply wanted to share and reminisce over some of the incredible festive teas we’ve enjoyed over the years. Spending a leisurely afternoon with lovely friends, an array of festive treats and champagne is sheer bliss. Especially at the most wonderful time of the year…
CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON TEA AT THE CONNAUGHT HOTEL
There is a special magic that falls over London at this time of year, a shimmer that only appears between late autumn twilights and inky early winter evenings. Spending the afternoon enjoying the festive afternoon tea at the Connaught Hotel cast the Christmas spell over me, with a twinkle of fairy lights dancing between champagne bubbles.
CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON TEA: THE INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL PARK LANE
I grew up on the other side of the world, but that doesn’t stop me embracing the traditions of a winter Christmas – especially the sheer cosy joy of a Christmas afternoon tea. The afternoon teas in the Wellington Lounge of the Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane delight the senses of the most hardened grinch.
The Nutcracker Tea – JW Marriott Grosvenor House
This was an afternoon of pure delight, last year completed with a visit from two ballerinas who were dancing in the Nutcracker ballet.
A CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON TEA WITH A LONDON VIEW | AQUA SHARD
My friend and I have explored Christmas markets around the UK, solved innumerable escape rooms together, and have a joint love of festive afternoon teas. So I knew exactly who I wanted to hang out with whilst trying this Christmas afternoon tea with a London view – up on the 31st floor at Aqua Shard.
CONRAD HOTEL ST JAMES | AFTERNOON TEA
Afternoon tea. It once was the preserve (apologies for the pun) of high society ladies and has of the last few years been reinstated as a luxurious way to spend quality time with people that you adore. So, no surprise then that when I was recently invited to try the new Spring tea at an old favourite, the Conrad London St. James (then known as the Intercontinental Westminster)…
FESTIVE AFTERNOON TEA AT THE LANGHAM HOTEL, MARYLEBONE
What is it that’s so special about afternoon tea? It’s only a few little sandwiches and a couple of teeny cakes, right? Nope, nope, nope. The festive Afternoon Tea at the Langham Hotel is pure bliss.
Christmas Afternoon Tea in the St Pancras Hotel
Popping Corks at Chez London Kiwi
Is it so wrong to include my own on this list? Ach, it’s my blog – I’ll do what I want to. I keep forgetting to take photos – the last one I have is from 7+ years ago of our Christmas Eve Eve afternoon tea – every time we do it, us ladies ban all the lads and settle in for a leisurely afternoon of champage, carols and christmas trees.
What are your favourite London christmas afternoon teas? (If you want some London christmas tree inspiration, the 2019 ones were incredible.)
