I don’t know about you, but everything that’s happening of late has only made me more determined to revel in the importance of small moments of life, even more so than ever. And I was pretty sickening already…
This isn’t just appreciating a moment, but stopping whatever you’re doing to be still and really in that moment.
DIY afternoon teas at home on a table laid with the best china.
When you get off the train just as the sky is turning the hue of cotton candy.
The smell of freshly ground coffee.
The moment when you add sour cream to a slowcooker stroganoff and it just comes together.
When a song comes that you haven’t heard in years, that instantly transports you.
Blossoms gently falling in front of your eyes, from laden tree boughs.
When a friendly cat approaches you on a neighbourhood stroll.
Being able to pay forward kindness.
Incredibly creative friends sharing their hard work.
Video calls with the family.
Double vinegar chips.
The meep of a trusting cat, ensconced in a duvet fort on a grey Saturday afternoon.
A cool breeze on the back of your neck after a fast walk.
Unearthing long forgotten photos.
Long bubble baths steeped in scent filled bubbles.
Surprise flowers popping up in a hedge row.
Snuggly blankets on a cold afternoon.
The cool feel of the rain on your face, just before you walk in the door. (No earlier mind.)
Ridiculous call back memes your husband sends you.
The smell of the air after a thunderstorm.
Simple, delicious things that catch you in the heart. They’re just unbeatable – and usually, the smaller, the more precious they often seem. There’s something about tiny moments, and it’s not always in the moment they happen – certainly recognising the importance of small moments is a skill.
