Day trips from London

Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa | A Shopping Staycation

One of my best recommendations for beating the winter blues is having something lovely to look forward to. For me this January, it was a cheeky overnight girls trip to the Bicester Hotel Golf & Spa. Disclosure: We were guests of Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa, all in much need of some January cheer.

The skies were altogether grey and damp, Christmas seemed to leave with all of the good cheer and I was already sick and tired of wearing a coat even festooned with a pretty scarf. (People that know me, will know of my extensive scarf collection which usually cheers me up no end, but it just wasn’t working its usual magic.)

    Daytrip to Rochester

I loves me a quick escape from London, so when a curious pixie (or should I say THE Curious Pixie) hit me up for a cheeky weekday wander-filled daytrip to Rochester I was absolutely up for shaking off the shackles of my desk and hitting the road.

    Daytrip to Rochester

Well, technically we hit the train tracks, hopping on a quick locomotive from London Victoria to Rochester (it’s 40 minutes or so, the perfect length of time for a natter and a breakfast croissant.)

Hever Castle – Childhood home of Anne Boleyn

Forget snow-white steeds tossing their manes and knights in chain mail, baring swords. All the modern princess of today needs is a train ticket, a great friend with exquisite taste in music and a glass of bubbly in the sunshine. Disclaimer: we were guests of Hever Castle.

Leaving London quickly behind (it’s only a 40-minute train ride, the perfect day trip from London Bridge Station.)

A weekend staycation at Tewkesbury Park Hotel

Sunrise slowly shimmered through the dawn fog and the soft twitter of birdsong spread across the valley. We were snugly nestled under our duvet, enjoying our weekend staycation at Tewkesbury Park Hotel, with a glorious view unfolding right at the foot of our bed. Disclaimer: We were invited to spend a weekend at Tewkesbury Park but all thoughts, images and curtain twitchings are very much my own.

I always love staycationing (or taking a ‘minigap’ which seems to be the newest phrase) and exploring new corners of England that I haven’t yet traipsed to.

    Lunch at Cliveden House

A black and white tail eagerly skidded past me – intent on the pink squishy ball flying over the snow and nothing else in the entire world – 3 nanoseconds later he flashed past again in a delighted blur of Collie fur. We were playing in the snow-dusted lawns before our booking for lunch at Cliveden House, earning ourselves a tasty repast.

The skies were blue after a thick snow flurry the day before, and we wandered through the grounds with rosy cheeks and a fair amount of giggling.
