I have a confession to make. I’m slightly obsessed with castles, and I knew that we had to visit Wawel Castle in Krakow. (Long term readers won’t be very surprised – I have form in this area – exploring them, staying in them, insisiting my family stop at them on car trips etc.)
Wawel Castle is a sprawling patchwork of history – personal and political stories that you can explore on foot. I learned that the Wawel Royal Castle and the Wawel Hill constitute the most historically and culturally significant site in the country.
Europe to me is history pages that have come alive – ancient stone bearing scars and flowering gardens full of stories to come. But the simple question on most city trippers lips when they visit the Czech capital is ‘what are the best things to do in Prague?’
How do you encapsulate an entire city spanning more than a thousand years – during which time the city grew from the Vyšehrad Castle to the capital of a modern European state, the Czech Republic – in as little as a couple of days and just a few things to see? Honestly, I’m not sure you can really.
I loves me a quick escape from London, so when a curious pixie (or should I say THE Curious Pixie) hit me up for a cheeky weekday wander-filled daytrip to Rochester I was absolutely up for shaking off the shackles of my desk and hitting the road.
Well, technically we hit the train tracks, hopping on a quick locomotive from London Victoria to Rochester (it’s 40 minutes or so, the perfect length of time for a natter and a breakfast croissant.)
You know how you have Travel Dreams (the ones complete with capital letters) that you keep in your heart of hearts? Well, this one involves my passport, a reliable set of wheels and an enormous map of the States. One day, one day in the future we’d love to take a whole year off and pick up an RV or two as we travel on a USA road trip of a lifetime. Disclaimer: This post was commissioned by RVshare who are running an amazing Smoky Mountains RV trip giveaway – if you’re in the US, enter before the 1st July 2019!
It’s really difficult to pick only a few USA road trip highlights to fit into a single blog post – especially as a year would be an incredible amount of time to explore the continental US – so I’ve just selected a handful of the really meaningful things that we would love to see and do. They are mostly inspired by people that we adore, some of whom have hung out with me in London and shared some of their amazing homes with me via the medium of the internets. (You know who you are!)
Ok, I’ll admit it. I was initially enticed to Goreme by the visions of hot air balloons silently floating above the ancient Turkish horizons. But, once we began researching our trip, I was intrigued by all of the things to do in Goreme and surrounding towns. Disclaimer: Contains an affiliate link which doesn’t cost you anything.
Rich with history, natural beauty and perfectly set up for exploring, our tour guide told us all about how Goreme is a tourism epicentre for the region, but it was just what we needed with only 2.5 days in Cappadocia.
