    Killer Whale Watching | Vancouver

The sighting of a killer whale (or orca) can be rare, but they do love to hunt and play in the waters between Vancouver and Seattle, so one of the activities we absolutely wanted to do (in addition to the harbour seaplane flight) was to go whale watching.

Killer Whale Orca Spotting Vancouver Adventures of a London Kiwi

Just South of Vancouver, in the quaint Historic fishing village of Steveston we hopped aboard our boat, and spent the day on the water cruising the coast looking for whales, other marine mammals and seabirds. The regular chug-chug-chug of the boat motor for a couple of hours lulled me into a meditate state as we sped our way over the State line from Vancouver, back down to the waters of Washington State.

    Our Vancouver Harbour Seaplane Flight

The wildfire smoke cleared on the morning of our family wedding, just in time for the bride and groom to say their vows overlooking coal harbour. We took this as a sign that we needed to book our Vancouver seaplane flight, to really explore the azure harbour waters and take in an eagle-eyed view of this city.

I suppose it was ok… oh, who am I kidding, the harbour is spectacular. Let me also point out that none of these images are touched by editing. Like 99% of my images in this blog (the other 1% is cropping and making slight adjustments), these are entirely un-doctored.

Vancouver: 18 Reasons Why We Fell In Love

Vancouver has always been our travel Avalon – a mystical dream that we never thought we would ever turn into reality. With family connections there that have threaded us to this beautiful Canadian city for decades, when we were invited to a wedding there last year practically within a breath of receiving the invite, we were investigating flights.

Weighing up the city combinations, instead of hitting the neon lights of Las Vegas we decided to explore Seattle for a few days before and afterwards, but it really was Vancouver that we were excited to delve into.

Salish Lodge and Spa: Hotel Review Overlooking Snoqualmie Falls

We slept with our hotel balcony door slightly ajar, the softly rushing sound of Snoqualmie Falls providing a soothing backdrop to our travel weary dreams. The smell of our own private fireplace was a rich and spicy quilt to our city senses, and the thick carpet of our Salish Lodge King Room was plush beneath our toes.

That building on the top left-hand side? That was our hotel – the Salish Lodge and Spa – perched on the edge of Snoqualmie Falls, a 268-foot (82 m) waterfall in the northwest United States. Read more

What to do in Seattle: Ferry to Bainbridge Island

To say that our afternoon trip over to Bainbridge Island was spontaneous is an understatement. We spent a morning mooching our way around a few of the Seattle stores (Mr Kiwi bought a watch, I bought a Frappucino at the Starbucks next to Pike Place Market – thereby hopping the hour plus queues) and then I google searched ‘what to do in Seattle’. That’s how much planning we did.

Jumping aboard one of their commuter ferries was highly recommended (much like our day trip to the Gothenburg archipelago) and we handily timed a sandwich stop (thanks to the ferry timetables handily being available in the Googlemaps public transport route planner!) and before we knew it, we left the Seattle city skyline behind and enjoyed the brisk wind on our faces.
