9 Things You Must Pack for a Winter Holiday

Ever wondered what you should pack for a winter holiday?

As this posts, Mr Kiwi and I will have snuck away on a winter trip to Bucharest – and Jack Frost will be nipping at our toes. We’ve intentionally planned it so that we won’t be there for the full-on ski season (Prince Charles owns a house in the Transylvanian mountains) but chilled enough to have a load of delicious plans that will keep our cheeks rosy and slake that wanderlust.

Ski Safe Tips Post Office Adventures of a London Kiwi Disclaimer: We were guests of the Post Office for a #SkiSafe event on the same day that London was besieged by #StormEmma. Coincidence?

I’ve never skiied, sledged or willingly walked out onto icy pavements, thanks to falling over and injuring myself too many times, but I do so adore a cheeky winter break – even though in my case it will be more apres than ski every time. We still love to get away over the chillier months though, so here are a few things that I’ve learned over the years, that are absolute essentials for a fun winter break. Read more

Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge | Vancouver, Canada

Staying in our apartment on the North Shore of Vancouver, we were tucked into a sleepy, suburban idyll where once off the busy highway, kids played ball games in the street and cats strolled around their own home territories without a care in the world. It is also home to the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge, but warned that the crowds in mid-August would be overwhelming, we were given the tipoff that the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and the surrounding park is a lovely place to while away an afternoon.

Smaller, free and with loads of walks and picnic areas, I sent my intrepid husband ahead to brave the canyon bridge whilst I sipped a much-needed coffee in the local cafe.

    Our Vancouver Harbour Seaplane Flight

The wildfire smoke cleared on the morning of our family wedding, just in time for the bride and groom to say their vows overlooking coal harbour. We took this as a sign that we needed to book our Vancouver seaplane flight, to really explore the azure harbour waters and take in an eagle-eyed view of this city.

I suppose it was ok… oh, who am I kidding, the harbour is spectacular. Let me also point out that none of these images are touched by editing. Like 99% of my images in this blog (the other 1% is cropping and making slight adjustments), these are entirely un-doctored.

The Sea to Sky Highway: Vancouver to Whistler

Move over Route 66, one of our favourite day trips from Vancouver City (we also managed to fit in wild Killer whale spotting – post to come) was taking the Sea to Sky highway up to Whistler.

I tried to summarise all of the things we enjoyed about Vancouver in my ’18 reasons why we fell in love’ post, and failed miserably. There were actually about 26 things listed, not to mention the myriad of minor things like the sound of forest birdsong from our apartment terrace or the laughter at the wedding we attended, but one of our favourite things was the snaking road and stunning vistas along the Sea to Sky highway.

Vancouver: 18 Reasons Why We Fell In Love

Vancouver has always been our travel Avalon – a mystical dream that we never thought we would ever turn into reality. With family connections there that have threaded us to this beautiful Canadian city for decades, when we were invited to a wedding there last year practically within a breath of receiving the invite, we were investigating flights.

Weighing up the city combinations, instead of hitting the neon lights of Las Vegas we decided to explore Seattle for a few days before and afterwards, but it really was Vancouver that we were excited to delve into.
